Headwaters 04:13
Time slides by at the speed of a cloudy sky That's still not the reason I shake through the night without you Long before my heart stitched itself to yours my feet were unsure, but I stood on the floor nonetheless You just helped me do the rest If you are a waterfall I am the river below Even though you made me roar I made the current alone I miss you now like a ship would miss its prow I say I can't wait to see you, but I have to know how, so I do the waiting only makes it true If you are a waterfall I am the river below Even though you made me roar I made the current alone If you are a waterfall I am the river below Even though you made me roar I made the current alone The river always brings me you

Well I wake to the shake of the subway below me thundering under the ground It moves through the grooves of the planet that owns me, calls through the walls of this town And I long to be freed from industrial greed, the desperate drive to succeed So I leave for the leaves and the quiet and lonely I will climb every mountain and gaze from the sea to the sky I will race to the summit, relinquish my spirit and cry The waves and the wild and the world A stitch in time So I'm pounding the ground with a fire inside me, searching the earth for a sign There are dreams of ambition that smother and hide me But I'll leave them behind - there are worlds here to find, and I won't let myself be resigned just to wake to the shake of the subway below me I will climb every mountain and gaze from the sea to the sky I will race to the summit, relinquish my spirit and cry The waves and the wild and the world A stitch in time So let us make fire and silence and sound and let us burn and be silent and bells I will climb every mountain and gaze from the sea to the sky I will race to the summit, relinquish my spirit and cry One with the universe, no longer wondering why From the summit I'll plummet, and loosen my shoulders and fly The waves and the wild and the world A stitch in time

Friend of mine I was a story undesigned A journal with no words surrounded by lines I'm not work of art, I was unfinished from the start 'til you penciled in the borders of my heart You came in found my outline and filled me up you fill me up Sitting next to you I notice everything you do The way you hold your pen, the way you tie your shoe and I follow the veins in the back of your hands like a road map I remember every town I pass through Just by being there to talk to, you fill me up you fill me up With every glance, with every word you say, you fill me up Friend of mine Help me out of this mind It's crowded with confessions you showed me how to find You broke down every fence, and I don't mean to sound intense, but everything I've ever lost suddenly makes sense you found me all alone and empty and filled me up you fill me up.

I've been working through the weekends trying to keep our lantern lit Though I don't wake up in the morning with a spring from where I sit and I don't grind my teeth to stubs solely from chomping at the bit, I have enough Like complaining when it's raining, I'm disdaining every day doing work without expression for some uninspired pay like the sky after the rainclouds, I feel tempted just to say "I've had enough" Was I born to work in coffeeshops while my passion fades and slowly flies away and is it wrong to get no sleep, working eighty hours a week, just to let myself follow a dream? It sometimes seems Still I've found no higher calling than the one that calls me home, makes me push my aching legs until they tremble to the bone, just to reach the door in time to put our dinner on the stove We have enough Like a bird that takes its glory finding pieces for his nest, I will piece together objects for the life that suits us best If the world I build around us keeps the rain out while we rest I'll have enough
